Awarding of Sessional Marks
For
Listening Skills, teachers may award marks to the students for their
comprehension ability in the first two Listening Skills lessons. With regard to
speaking skills, teachers may assess the performance of the students in the Lab
classes according to their convenient pattern and award marks assessing their
language ability and speaking skills. At the end they may be averaged to 30.

End Examination
To
evaluate the Listening Skills of the
students, the teacher may
·
play
any audio available to them preparing a question paper for 10 marks
or
·
play
a selection for 10 marks from one of the lessons from listening lessons (from
3-10) of C 09 syllabus, that are available in all the institutions along
with audio. If new colleges do not
possesses that they may download from Polytechnicenglish.blogspot.in
/ eng.gpadk.edu.in. The written text for them will be uploaded soon.
Teachers may select any part for 10 marks.

a passage and prepare a question paper. Read out the passage and instruct
students to answer the given questions
while listening.
This
may be done in common for all the students of a branch at a time. After
completion of the task, students may be divided into groups to test their
speaking skills through various speaking activities.
To
evaluate the Speaking Skills of the Students
the teacher may give two activities (a group activity and an individual
activity) to each student.
Activity 1: Group Discussion / Role play of mock
interview/ group presentation on a topic randomly given (compulsory for all and activity selection
through lottery)
Activity 2: As per the
number of the students and the time available, teachers may give any task from
speaking skills lessons 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or
8, Lots may be taken by the
students.
These
two activities may be monitored and evaluated by the internal teacher and
external examiner. Marks may be awarded for each activity as given in the
following table.

Part
A: Listening Skills
This part of the examination tests the students’
skills to comprehend English as they listen
to a short talk by the teacher or to conversation /talk played by the teacher.
A question paper containing ten questions objective in nature ( FIB/ Multiple
Choice) is given to the students.
Instructions:
·
Read the questions numbered 1-10 before
you listen to the talk. (Give students a
minute to go through the questions)
·
Answer questions 1-10 as you listen to
the talk.

( This part of the test
may take 20 minutes)

B : Speaking Skills
50
marks
This part of the examination tests the spoken skills
of the students as they use English in different situations.
Each student
may be given two activities of which participating in both is mandatory and the
choice picked through lottery by the student from among the activities of the
following units:
Activity 1: Group Discussion / Role play of mock
interview/ group presentation on a topic randomly given (compulsory for all and activity selection
through lottery)
Group
Discussion: A group of six or seven
students are given a topic and their interaction is
evaluated.
Mock
Interviews : A group of three or four role play a panel interview and their
interaction is
evaluated.
Group
Presentation: A group of five or six is given a topic. The students work
together and make
a presentation
in which all members in the group present one after another
the different aspects of a topic. (students can present the
topic orally/
through rough
paper posters. They need not be insisted on PPTs)
For example :
Topic: Plant more saplings –the world today-
benefits of
trees - why
should we do it more today- who should do it- how should we
do it etc. Each
aspect may be presented by different students in the group.
Activity
2:
As per the number of the students and the time available, teachers may give any
task from speaking skills lessons 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8, Lots may be taken by the students

Describing an object - individual - (example:

Describing a Person - individual - (example: your father)
Describing an Event - individual - (example: a birthday party you recently
attended)

: read the given passage and present the main

kabbadi matches)
